Overview

Research as one of SEAQIS's three pillars

Research is not a side activity at SEAQIS — it is one of the three core pillars that underpin all of SEAQIS's programmes and services across Southeast Asia.

Through its research, SEAQIS generates new knowledge that feeds directly into the development of training programmes, the creation of learning media and regional science education policy recommendations.

  • 1
    Professional Teacher Development
Research to strengthen the competence and professionalism of science teachers in Southeast Asia.
  • 2
    Learning Resources Development
Research to develop science education resources, simulations, media and curricula.
  • 3
    Professional Learning Communities
Research to build sustainable professional learning communities among science teachers.

The SEAQIS Research Process

1
Issue Identification
Mapping strategic science education issues in the region, based on surveys, national data and SEAMEO directions.
2
Research Design
Designing a rigorous methodology — quantitative, qualitative or mixed-methods — to suit each study.
3
Execution & Collaboration
Research is carried out with teachers, partner universities or the SEAQIS in-house team in countries across ASEAN.
4
Dissemination & Implementation
Findings are published in SciEd Journal, presented at conferences and put into practice in training programmes.
SEAQIS Research Grant (SRG)

Research grants for science teachers and education personnel in Southeast Asia

Since 2015, SEAQIS has supported teachers and education personnel to carry out science education research through grants funded by Indonesia's Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud). The SRG is a concrete expression of SEAQIS's commitment to building a research culture among teachers.
